In 2011, as well as documenting music making at the Dartington International Summer School, I joined forces with my co-photographer that year, Alice Carfrae, to frame musicians and composers in front of a portable backdrop. Irving Penn was an obvious influence. In our case, part of the impulse was to isolate our subjects within the idyllic English garden landscape.
